Intellectual Property Policy

  • Staff and Faculty Members who create any works or inventions shall be the owner and retain the ownership of all intellectual property related to the same, when it is created outside their assigned/normal area of research/teaching, without the use of significant college resources or funded or sponsored by Shasun College or Third Party, which will then be owned by Shasun College or Third Parties, as the case may be.
  • Research Scholars and Students who create any works or inventions shall be the owner and retain the ownership of all intellectual property related to the same, when it is created without the use of significant college resources or funded or sponsored by Shasun College or Third Party, which will then be owned by Shasun College or Third Parties, as the case may be.
  • Staff, Faculty Members, Research Scholars and Students who create intellectual property shall retain the ownership of all rights in artistic, literary and dramatic works on books, articles, research papers and other publications, despite use of college resources as long as such works do not relate to or emanate from Sponsored Research, Research conducted under the direction and control of Shasun College, created or developed in the performance of any work which is subject to Third Party Agreement(s), which will be owned by Shasun College or Third Parties, as the case may be.
  • Staff, Faculty Members, Research Scholars and Students will own the copyright on thesis, dissertation, research papers, etc and are free to publish results of their research, Shasun College retains a non-exclusive, royalty free, irrevocable license to copy/use works for academic, teaching and research activities.
  • Shasun College will be the owner of the copyright on all teaching and learning material developed as part of any of the academic programs of Shasun College, developed by Staff, Faculty Members, Research Scholars and Students which would be considered “work madefor hire’. Staff, Faculty Members, Research Scholars and Students can cite the work in their professional or academic purposes.
  • In case of Intellectual Property created as part of Sponsored Research, Research conducted under the direction and control of Shasun College, created or developed in the performance of any work which is subject to Third Party Agreement(s) the ownership of the same will be governed by specific provisions as the contract which would be specified in writing [including any financial benefits that might be provided on commercialization] to the Staff, Faculty Members, Research Scholars and Students before the commencement of the Project and may require the assignment of intellectual property rights in favour of Shasun College, Sponsor and/or Third Party.
  • Shasun College may from time to time designate or create an Intellectual Property Cell to create awareness, advice on, manage and monitor the development and commercialization of intellectual property and implementation of this policy.
  • Staff, Faculty Members, Research Scholars and Students shall exercise due care and maintain confidentiality of information which could have commercial value and can lead to the development of potential intellectual property.
  • Staff, Faculty Members, Research Scholars and Students shall report the creation of any intellectual property to the designated Intellectual Property Cell.
  • The use of Shasun College’s intellectual property including but not limited to the trademark, and names will be subject to the policy and guidelines as issued by Shasun College from time to time.

Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College (hereinafter referred to as “Shasun College”) encourages and aims to facilitate the protection and valorization of intellectual property generated during academic pursuits. Research and development work done by staff, faculty members, research scholars and students may lead to evolution of intellectual property having a potential for commercialization. The creation of intellectual property not only contributes to the professional development of the individuals involved, but also enhances the reputation of the College, provides educational opportunities for students and promotes public welfare.
