Shasun Shakthi Cell Programmes - 2011-12

The students of the College are invited to join one of the following Courses of study, the details of which are given below.

Each one of the courses will be taught for 2 hours per week and commence by the 1st week of July for the Second and Third Year students and in the 1st week of August for the First Year students. There is no separate fee for joining the Course and a Certificate of Merit and Participation will be given at the end of the programme after an evaluation. The total number of teaching and practice for each one of the course will be about 40 hours spread over a six - month period (July to September, January to March) during the academic year.

These courses are held during the College hours of Shift I and II. Special classes, if any and necessary will be conducted on a few Saturdays and will be notified well in time.

Normally, a group of 60 to 70 students are taken for one Section and more Sections will be formed as the student number increases.

FOR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS

Course 001: Effective English (Level I)

This course is intended to enhance the English language skill of the student so that she can catch up with the higher level required for her studies as well as the outside world.

Topics covered in brief: Short stories, Essays, Drama, Spoken English/Conversation, Letter writing, Vocabulary, Pronunciation and Grammar.

Course 002: Effective English (Level II)
This course is meant to enhance the skills of the student and includes Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Presentation skills, meetings, negotiations, Business letters, emails, reports, Interview skills, group discussions skills, public speaking.

FOR SECOND YEAR STUDENTS

Course 003: Certificate in Food & Nutrition
Course Outline: Role of food in ensuring healthy living with primary emphasis on nutrition, cost effectiveness and environment friendly approaches. It includes features like food selection and preparation, nutrition from infancy to old age, economics of food, kitchen gardening, food adulteration, consumer rights, safety and education, etc,

Course 004: Certificate in Business skills
The course aims at developing business skills in particular to women, so as to enable them to avail gainful self employment opportunities.

Course 005: Certificate in German Language
This course teaches in the area of reading, listening, speaking and writing. It also enable in simple conversations and also to speak in the simple past tense.

Course 006: Certificate in Tourism Studies
The course familiarizes the learner with varied aspects of Tourism, awareness about tourism and imparts basic training in organizing tourism services and preparing them for career opportunities.

Course 007: Certificate in Consumer Protection & RTE
The course aims at creating an overall awareness and training on consumer’s affairs with special emphasis on consumer protection. The learners can become consumer activist, NGO and in Government departments on consumer affairs. Right to inform act is allied subject.

Course 008: Certificate in Human Rights
The course is intended to sensitize professionals and workers who interact with masses. Besides general students, specific target groups include law enforcement personnel (police, army, paramilitary forces) and functionaries of the lower judiciary and administrative officers, primary school teachers and NGO functionaries. It includes the issues raised by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and explains the Indian counter parts.

Course 009: Multimedia (Adobe related course)
It includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms.

Course 010: Rich Media(Adobe related course)
Communicate more information; through different types of media (audio, video and interaction). Collect more information either by programming or simply by asking for information. More clicks.

Course 011: Web Design(Adobe related course)
Students are introduced to software for interactive Web multimedia development, and for creating World Wide Web sites, with an emphasis on basic HTMLfor content creation and Web site design using Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.

Course 012: Album making using Photoshop(Adobe related course)
It helps users intuitively create and manipulate images. Image tool, brush tool, Erase tool, Magic Wand tool, move tool, paint brush tool are used to combine with some patterns and shapes to create an original and vivid illustration.

Course 017: Happy Living: This Course prepares you for a better personal and social life. Main topics covered are : Health & Hygiene,Women &Family, Career / Society.
Law against abuses &harassment, Happiness and unhappiness; Being and enjoying womanhood.

This Course is meant for the lovers of Indian culture. It gives an authentic version of Indian cultural heritage in four main units viz.

  • These (Course 021 to Course 032) are provided in addition to the courses listed earlier. Depending on ones level of interest the student can register. The instruments will be provided by the college. These courses are offered during all the 3 years of study.
    Timings will be 1.30 : 2.30 P.M for Shift I and 12.00 to 1.00 P.M for Shift II for two days in a week for First and Second year and one day in a week for the Third year students.

    SPORTS:
    Sports activities and games are available along with the regular college studies. There is provision for learning Yoga, Karate, Silambam and Gymnastic. There are opportunities for participating in competitive sports at the intercollegiate and state level.
